Hey guys, I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves out there. I know I’m taking a lot of comfort in baking, like always, and today is no different. I’ve got a recipe for Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread that will make your home smell cozy and put a smile on your face.
I know we’re all just looking for something other than banana bread and sourdough to bake right now, so this is a super easy recipe with a cinnamony swirl running through it and it’s the perfect comfort food and comfort bake. Let’s get to it!
How To Make Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread
This recipe is actually very similar to a banana bread recipe, but instead of mashed bananas, we’re using apple sauce. For this recipe you want to use unsweetened, plain, applesauce to make sure the bread isn’t overly sweet.
The batter comes together quickly- you start by mixing the butter and sugar, and then adding the vanilla extract, eggs, and applesauce. Beat in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Then, it’s on to the swirl. You want to take about 1/4 of the batter (it doesn’t have to be perfect!) and put into a small bowl. Stir in the cinnamon to this separated batter, and that’s your swirl batter!
Now, just and spread a very thin layer of the base batter into your pan, and dollop in some of the cinnamon batter. Repeat the process until you’ve used all of the batter and the cinnamon batter.
Then, use a butter knife to swirl things together in a figure-8 motion, being sure that the knife goes all the way to the bottom of the pan as you go to make sure the whole loaf of bread has a swirl in it. Then we’re generously sprinkling the top with sugar, which creates a beautiful crust. Off to the oven!
Cool the bread in the pan for at least 30-45 minutes until removing to slice and serve. Enjoy!
Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 6 tbs. softened butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, and generously grease an 8 inch loaf pan. You can also line it with parchment paper to make it easier to remove from the pan.
-
In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until fluffy. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, and applesauce and beat until just combined. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, and beat together until a batter comes together- it should be fairly thick.
-
Pour about 1/4 of the batter into a small bowl (it doesn't have to be perfect) and stir the cinnamon into the separated batter. Spread some of the plain batter into your prepared pan, and then dollop in some of the cinnamon batter. Repeat until all of the batter is in the pan.
-
Use a butter knife to swirl the batter in a figure-8 motion, being sure to go all the way to the bottom of the pan.
-
Optionally, you can sprinkle sugar on top of the batter before baking. Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool and enjoy!

This would be even more awesome with a caramel drizzle over the top. Planning to add next time. My toddler couldn’t get enough of this, though !
